Bees

Bees and wasps can put the sting on your outdoor plans. Wasps come in many types and sizes. The ones that are of most concern to people because of their stinging habits are Yellow Jackets, Hornets, and Paper Wasps. Some social wasps are predators for most or all of the year and provide a great benefit by killing large numbers of plant-feeding insects and nuisance flies; others are exclusively scavengers. Stings most commonly occur with various species of Yellow Jacket and Paper Wasps. Yellow Jackets will also forage on foods that people eat, especially sweets and meats.

Identifying Bees, Yellow Jackets, Hornets, and Wasps

Due to their size and coloration wasps are often mistaken for bees. Bees are not nearly as aggressive and are valued as major pollinators as well as honey producers. All wasps will defend their nests, but the Yellow Jackets, Hornets and Paper Wasps are the most aggressive. They can be distinguished from bees by their thin "waists." Bees are thick waisted. Bee-proofing is just one area of our expertise!

Honeybees

Honeybees are social insects that live in colonies. The hive population consists of a single queen, a few hundred drones, and thousands of worker bees. Honeybees have the ability to be aggressive at any time, but certain things set them off. The bad behavior usually stops as soon as the colony or the beekeeper replaces the queen. I am a professional bee keeper and we can remove the honeybee colony safely and be relocated.

Termites

Termites can literally eat you out of house and home. Your home is one of the most expensive possessions most people own. Termites can take that investment of yours and ruin it in a rather short time. In some cases, it is quite possible you will never even know that they are there until a lot of damage has already been done. If you have termites already - or want to make sure that you don't, contact us today. You can ensure that your investment stays in the pristine condition - at least from termites – with Pro-Tech Exterminating.

Ants

Ants aren't fun when you are having a picnic and they are even less fun when they invade your home or business. Ants are the most common pest problem reported. These tiny scavengers will enter your home or business looking for moisture and an accessible food source. Sometimes even rotting or damp wood that has mold damage can attract ants. Most, but not all ants feed on most kinds of sweets. They also feed on cheese, meats, vegetables, grease, peanut butter, and dead insects. Ants often enter a home through cracks around windows or doors but may also be able to enter in through holes for wires. Once inside, the growing ant colony can become a problem quickly as ants mature from juvenile to adult within a matter of days.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter Ants are about 5/8" long, make burrows in damp wood, and can go from there to damage solid wood. They do not eat the wood, but just remove it for nests.

Pavement Ants

Pavement Ants, about 1/8" long, make their nests in cracks in pavement and can infest a building.

Ants with wings can often be mistaken for termites - which may lead to a wrong treatment. Ants have a very narrow thorax (mid-section), while termites' bodies are more uniform.

Ladybugs

Lady Bugs can be lots of fun until they overrun your home in the fall. Ladybugs are attracted to the light-colored houses, especially homes that have a clear southwestern sun exposure. Older homes tend to experience more problems with aggregations due to a lack of adequate insulation. The ladybugs come in through small cracks around windows, doorways, and under clapboards. They want to hibernate in a warm, comfortable spot over the cold months of winter. Ladybugs gather in groups when they hibernate, so if you see one, you can be sure more will follow.

Stink Bugs

Stink Bugs are large, oval or shield-shaped insects. They get their common name from the odor of the chemical that they produce. Many species of stink bugs feed on plants and crops and are considered to be an agricultural pest. When they attack fruits, like peaches, they make the fruit unfit for sale. The bugs attack numerous types of plants, including tomatoes, soybeans, lima beans, and sweet corn, but fruit shows damage more quickly. Stink bugs can become household pests when they invade homes for warmth. They enter homes in the late summer or fall. They get into the home through cracks or holes in screens. They remain hidden through the winter and become active in the spring.

Box Elder Bugs

Box Elder Bugs are primarily a nuisance because they enter homes and other buildings, often in large numbers. When abundant, they can stain walls, curtains, and other surfaces with their excrement.

Cluster Flies

Cluster Flies are a pest in homes, schools, and commercial buildings in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Cluster flies closely resemble house flies but are larger and slower in their movements. Cluster flies derive their common name from their habit of entering a home or building in the fall and gathering together in clusters, usually in the attic or upper regions of buildings.

Millipedes and Centipedes

Millipedes and Centipedes are not insects because they have more than six legs, but they are closely related invertebrates. When outdoors, these invertebrates are innocuous organisms, but they may be considered pests when they share living space with us.

Rodents

Rodents may look cute, but these little guys can destroy a house or business. Mice and Rats can carry and spread all kinds of viral and bacterial diseases. They also contaminate significant amounts of the world’s food supply every year as well as cause damage to homes and structures. Protecting your home and family is our first priority, and our rodent control programs are the best in the industry!
